Yves Saint Laurent: 1937-2008

The news about the designer Yves Saint Laurent's passing on Sunday night truly breaks my heart and saddens me for the Fashion Industry has not only lost a great designer but a magnificent and brilliant genius. If it wasn't for Yves Saint Laurent, the world would certainly have been an unkempt place. From day one, Saint Laurent has pushed the boundaries in his work inspiring many of the extravagant designers that we see today i.e. Alber Elbaz, Tom Ford and Stefano Pilati; entering into the fashion world with a vision and mission to follow in his footsteps. He will be remembered as the inventor of modern fashion, for his exclusive, trend-setting styles and for giving women beauty and confidence with his famous power jacket ‘le smoking’ created in the mid-60s and for continuing to do s0 over the recent and past decades.

Yves Saint Laurent died at the age of 71 in his home in Rue de Babylone and his funeral will be on Thursday at the Eglise Saint Roch. The man himself may be gone, but may the YSL spirit remain in us all as we continue to fashion and confide in ourselves in his honour. Goodbye Yves!
